Learn spreadsheet skills one task at a time
New to spreadsheets? Start with the first guide, then choose a job task. Each guide has an example, common mistakes, and a link to practice.
Your first spreadsheet
Learn what A1 means, where to type, and how to save an entry before trying a formula.
Guides for specific job tasks
Pick a task you want to practice. Each guide shows the steps, explains common mistakes, and opens its matching trainer lesson.
Made for first-time learners
FreeJobTools is for someone who has never used a spreadsheet before, a job seeker preparing for βbasic Excel skills,β or someone returning to office work. A spreadsheet is a grid of cells: each cell can hold a word, number, or formula. The trainer lets you work in that grid while these guides explain why a workplace might ask for the task.
You can read a guide and come back to the trainer at any time. Completed lessons and earned points stay in the browser you use. These formulas teach skills that transfer to Excel and Google Sheets; menus and some features can differ by program or version.
How the interactive lessons work
- Learn with me: follow a short guided example. The highlighted target cell tells you where to work. When you complete a step correctly, the lesson moves on.
- Your turn: the trainer switches to fresh practice data automatically. The reminder shows the formula or tool to use; you may hide it when you feel ready.
- Check my answer: the trainer compares the result with the task. A mistake message should point to the cell or formula part that needs attention. You can review the example without losing your practice entries.
The lessons progress from selecting cells and using SUM to office tasks such as an invoice, status counts, lookup, sorting, and a pivot table. The later tasks are harder; there is no time limit, and repeating a lesson is fine.
